Driven by the ever-increasing trends of energy consumption in buildings and growing concerns on climate change, there is now an established movement towards sustainability in buildings. Indeed, this drive has culminated in the requirement to have nearly Zero Energy Buildings as of the end of 2018. Such a drive is however regularly contrasted by the fact that building occupants have grown accustomed to a certain degree of thermal, visual and acoustic comfort, which often is energy intensive.
The M.Sc. in Sustainable Building Design and the M.Sc. in Building 福利在线免费 Engineering aim at bridging that gap, by providing focused learning on subjects related to energy efficiency in buildings, resource management and building comfort.
The M.Sc. in Sustainable Building Design, offered by the Faculty of Built Environment, draws a focus on the building envelope and its environmental performance, whereas the M.Sc. in Building 福利在线免费 Engineering, offered by the Faculty of Engineering, is geared towards the systems that complement the building envelope. Given the complementing nature of the study areas, some units are shared between the programmes, encouraging collaboration and collegiality between a wide-varied range of professionals.
