In a ceremony held on 12 September at the University of Malta, thirty-one nurses received a Certificate of Achievement for successfully completing the assessment requirements for ‘LAS2038 Management Skills: Bringing out the Best in Yourself at Work’. This short course was organised in conjunction with the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) and accredited by the University of Malta as a unit within its Programme in the Liberal Arts and Sciences (PLAS).
The Unit, regulated by a Collaboration Agreement between the University of Malta and MUMN, considered a series of perspectives in management by focusing on different schools of thought, approaches and techniques. It evaluated main theories of motivation and its link to job satisfaction and employee engagement, which will help participants to create a more dynamic, loyal, and energised workplace, thus providing participants with a richer multi-faceted understanding of managerial issues. This Unit provided participants with insights on areas such as personal development, enneagram styles, effective communication, conflict management, appraisal skills, discipline, recruitment and selection, training skills, talent, culture, strategy, decision making, problem solving, motivation, and leadership styles.
Prof. Joseph M. Cacciottolo, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs and Chairman of the CLAS Board, highlighted the role of the University in supporting such training courses which contribute to the professional development of midwives and nurses, providing them with skills that benefit their work and working relationships.
The Director of the Centre for the Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), Dr Jean-Paul De Lucca, spoke of Centre’s commitment to collaborate with entities outside the University in providing opportunities for continuous personal and professional development.
MUMN President Ms Maria Cutajar stated that the MUMN is committed to lifelong learning and the development of its members. Professional development is critical because it emphasizes the importance of the continuing education, assessing learning needs and upholding competency. On behalf of the MUMN Council and the IHCP, Ms Cutajar thanked Dr De Lucca and the staff at the CLAS for their collaboration with MUMN, and look forward for future collaboration between both organisations.
The ECTS credits obtained upon successful completion of this Unit count toward Awards (Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma, Bachelor) in Liberal Studies. More information is available on the .
