Our newly-designed M.A. in Contemporary Family Studies course seeks to attract potential researchers and policy makers in the area of contemporary family issues with a special focus on policy and practice. Masters graduates in family studies would be a valuable asset for policy makers who seek an empirical base for their work. Through the course, graduates would also contribute to a body of knowledge in this cross disciplinary area of study through their research and scientific publications.
This three-year, part-time evening course is comprised of the following study-units: Contemporary Issues in Family Studies; Research Methods in Family Studies; Foundations in Family Policy; Academic Reading, Writing and Speaking in English for Postgraduate Students; Assessment and Evaluation of Family Policy and Practice; Practical Application of Research Methods in Family Studies; Internship at a Family鈥搑elated Entity; and a Dissertation. The internship provides an exciting opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills learnt and will also enhance their employability in research and family policy development within Government, NGO or private sectors both locally and internationally. Equally, graduates may be employed in family-practice related areas such as LEAP centres. Students may go on to apply for a Ph.D. course with the Department upon successful completion of this course.
This Master's targets students with a second class undergraduate degree or better in the social sciences who wish to pursue research related to contemporary family studies.
