27 students of the Media & Communications Department within Faculty of Media & Knowledge Sciences have recently launched an online magazine aimed at breaking stereotypes about local youth.
Through a number of varied articles, Seba’ Visti narrates the lives of seven individuals tied together through the question of how Maltese youth typically spend a Saturday night. “It’s a raw celebration of youth; a bold, unapologetic message to everyone who attempts to put youth into one box”, the students wrote in the editorial. Maltese and English were the writing languages of choice.
The magazine, available for viewing , is part of the assessment for a study-unit called ‘Magazine and Digital Publishing’, taught by .
A communications student magazine is published annually. This is the first time in over 25 years that the magazine does not have a print edition.
This year's team, consisting of an editorial group, a Communications group, a Marketing group and a Design group, was in charge of the entire production of the magazine from start to finish. They conceptualised the idea, wrote the articles, edited them, laid them on a template, curated them, shot and edited all photography in the magazine and sought the help of sponsors and marketed the end product.
They launched the magazine through a series of live-streams on Facebook featuring a number of local musical acts.
“It has been great to see how well these students coped with the limitations they had because of not being able to be physically present at the University in the second half of the course. Despite all odds, they managed to put together a wonderful publication that surely deserves a read. I’m very proud of them", commented , Head of the Media & Communications Department.
