An extremely heartening milestone has been reached as the first-ever by the University of Malta, launched less than one month ago, has already surpassed the €10,000 mark.
Announced by the SSF Committee, this result is demonstrative of both the generosity of all those who have recognised the need to contribute and the reality of the students with financial struggles.
The Fund is the University’s initiative to financially assist University students who reside in Malta who have experienced hardships due to COVID-19, and beyond. It will be maintained by regular donations from staff members as well as those outside the University community.
Committee meetings, made up of social workers, academics and with the participation of the are being held regularly to establish how best to disburse these funds, and guarantee that the University presents all opportunities possible to all of its talented students, irrespective of their background.
Whilst the Committee has already started disbursing some of the €10,000, other beneficiaries of these funds are currently being earmarked.
UM Pro-Rector for Student & Staff Affairs and Outreach, , who chairs the SSF Committee, said that “this expression of solidarity in action fosters mutual support between the different facets of the University community, as I am positive that the students who will benefit from it will, in turn, do their best to make the University proud with their personal and professional achievements.”
KSU will, in the near future, be holding fund-raising activities to further contribute towards the Fund.
