Perhaps a lesser known role of , other than being an Associate Professor at the Public Health Department within the University of Malta, and the Superintendent of PublicHealth within the Ministry of Health, is that she also a member of the Historic Order of Catholic Hospitallers.
The accolades for her stellar work throughout this pandemic are still incoming.
The Grand Master H.E. Don Francisco de Borbon Graf von Hardenberg and the Grand Chancery of the Military and Hospitaller Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem have recently accepted the nomination of Prof. Charmaine Gauci made by the Grand Priory of the Maltese Islands for her to be admitted as an Officer in the Companionate of Merit of the International Order.
The Companionate of Merit of the Order is awarded to individuals for distinguished exceptional services towards the hospitaller work and ideals of the Order. Prof Gauci was chosen for this award because of her steadfast national leadership during the Corona-19 pandemic which emulated the long-standing hospitaller ideals of the Order, notably those of warding off infections and caring for the victims.
Prof. Gauci, shown in the picture with the grandmaster, formally joined as a member of the Grand Priory in 2018 and has since actively supported the philanthropic work of the jurisdiction.
