For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Malta鈥檚 Department of International Relations within the Faculty of Arts is welcoming some thirty students for its , offered in conjunction with the Network on Humanitarian Action (NOHA).
The University of Malta joined NOHA in 2014, and this collaboration has since then focused on training students on the latest developments in forced migration, thanks to inter-faculty expertise by several UM lecturers across different FICS specialising on the matter.
NOHA Director at the University of Malta, , explained that this specialisation, unique within the NOHA Network, was a natural choice given Malta's geographic position in the middle of the so-called Central Mediterranean migratory route. UM NOHA Coordinator said that many students undertaking this course also volunteer at different related NGOs in conjunction with their studies, something that helps them get to grips not just with the theoretical aspects of migration, but also to get first-hand experience of the realities experienced by migrants themselves.
NOHA is an international association of universities that aims to enhance professionalism in humanitarian action through education & training, research & publications and projects. The network was born from the idea that higher educational institutions have an essential role to play in enhancing professionalism in the delivery of humanitarian assistance through education.
