H.E. Ambassador Walter Ha脽mann delivered a keynote address to MEDAC's postgraduate students and academic staff on 28 October, 2020 during a session of the German Chair Postgraduate Seminar on Championing Diplomacy in the Mediterranean - Eastern Mediterranean and Libya: The Way Forward.
During his address, the Ambassador discussed the centrality of historical developments in the Mediterranean when it comes to understanding the contemporary pattern of relations in the region. Ambassador Ha脽mann examined numerous security challenges in the Mediterranean and pleaded for more cooperative and non-zero sum game approaches to addressing them. The Ambassador also reiterated the role of youth in advancing towards greater understanding and striving for a common good in the Mediterranean. 
H.E. Walter Ha脽mann engaged in a Q&A session with students, fielding questions on issues ranging from the German EU Presidency to his experience as a diplomat in crisis regions. The Seminar, which due to Covid-19 mitigation measures is stretched over four weeks, with students following in person and online, is funded by the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs through its contribution to MEDAC.
