Dr James Calleja, an academic member from the Department of Leadership for Learning and Innovation, Faculty of Education, was voted as a Council member of the (WALS).
WALS is an organisation that aims to promote and advance the research and practices focused on lesson study.
Lesson study, a professional learning and development approach that is now practised in many countries (including Malta), involves teacher-led research in which a group of teachers work together to identify an area for development in student learning.
Towards this end, WALS provides a platform for research collaboration, mutual assistance and information exchange among its members. It is made up of educational researchers and teaching professionals committed to the improvement of the quality of learning.
Within WALS, Dr Calleja will be representing Malta in promoting and disseminating lesson study practices. In Malta, he leads the (CLeStuM) programme, housed within the Faculty of Education, to support schools (at primary, secondary and post-secondary levels) to learn about, initiate and sustain collaborative lesson studies.
Dr Calleja is also leading the UM project team on the (LS4VET) EU-funded Erasmus+ project.
