A set of publications belonging to , late Computer Science Professor at the Florida State University, has been donated to the University of Malta鈥檚 Faculty of 福利在线免费 and Communication Technology.
The donation was made by his wife, Prof. Isabel Stabile who is Associate Professor in Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Director of the International School for Foundation Studies and Rector鈥檚 Delegate in International Medical Students Mentoring.
The books and journals, which were cordially received by Prof. Carl Debono, Dean of the Faculty of ICT on Thursday 4 February, 2021, cover several ICT disciplines, such as Artificial Intelligence, Databases, and Software Engineering, among others.
They will now be exhibited in glass-fronted showcases in the foyer on Level 1 of the Faculty of ICT building.
鈥淥n behalf of all of my colleagues at the Faculty, I鈥檇 like to say I am beyond honoured to be hosting the collection of books previously owned by such a gifted scientist as Dr Kohout was. I thank Prof. Stabile and her family for giving us this honour and we shall recognise his work going forward鈥, said Prof. Debono.
Dr Kohout was Professor of Computer Science at the Florida State University in Tallahassee. He graduated in Computer and Control Engineering at Department of Control and Computer Engineering from the Czech Technological University, Prague. He also received a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Essex, UK.
He was the Deputy Head of the Computing Department at the Institute of Astronomy, Czechoslovak Academy of Science until 1968, and also held posts involving interdisciplinary research. In 1974-79, he was an assistant professor in Medical Computing and Bio-Engineering at University College within the University of London.
He then joined Brunel University, London in 1979, where he was a tenured senior lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, after which he was offered a full professorship at FSU in 1985 and immigrated to the US as an internationally recognised scientist in 1988.
He pioneered theoretical work in the areas of systems science, non-classical logic, fuzzy set theory, knowledge engineering, soft computing, intelligence systems and computer science.
Professor Kohout was a very prolific author, having written over 250 scientific papers, and he received a number of awards for his work, including Outstanding Scholarly Contribution for the book 鈥楰nowledge-Based Systems for Multiple Environments鈥, and Professional Efficiency Program Award given by the State University System of Florida in 1999. He passed away in Malta due to ill health in 2009.
