The (CRPD) recently donated books and various documents that were housed in the Wenzu Dalli Resource Centre, to the Department of Disability Studies within the Faculty for Social Wellbeing.
These books and documents are of great value to students and lecturers who want to learn more about the social and cultural aspects of disability, the history of disabled people鈥檚 movements and disabled people鈥檚 rights.
In total, over 400 items were donated, but in order to ensure availability to UM students and lecturers, 183 books have been placed in the Main Library. The Department retained the other books and documents, which also include reports and other documentation that throw light on the history of disability in Malta.
The Resource Centre was set up by the National Commission for Persons with Disability when it was first established in 1987. Over the years, it grew into a valuable collection of books, journals, reports and other documentation about various aspects of disability, including education, employment, legislation, assistive technology, gender, independent living, self-advocacy, social work and sexuality among others.
The Resource Centre was named after , a prominent disability activist, following his demise in 2005.
