MEDAC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Institute for Middle East and Balkan Studies (), based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The Memorandum foresees joint efforts such as research projects and conferences as well as exchange of expertise and information. The agreement also aims at supporting other forms of scientific cooperation, such as joint publications.
In the framework of IFIMES Vienna Process, in March 2021, H.E. President Dr George Vella provided the keynote speech, which focused on the patterns of cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region. A brief recap is available .
This second event of the Vienna Process was titled: “Europe – Future – Neighbourhood at 75: Disruptions Recalibration Continuity”. The conference, jointly organised by the Modern Diplomacy, IFIMES and their partners, with the support of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, was aimed at discussing the future of Europe and its neighbourhood in the wake of its old and new challenges.
During the first of the three panels during this event, chaired by the former OSCE Secretary General (2011-2017 Amb. Lamberto Zannier, the Holder of the German Chair for Peace Studies and Conflict Prevention at MEDAC, Dr Monika Wohlfeld presented a paper on multilateralism and ‘mini-lateralism’ in the Mediterranean region.
