Dr Kenneth Grech was invited to address and participate in a High-Level Conference of the Slovenian Presidency of the EU Council in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 15 July 2021.
This high-level conference focused on Implementing Innovative Solutions for Resilient Health Systems and included the participation of several EU Ministers for Health and of Prof. Mario Monti, the ex-premier of Italy, in his capacity as the Chair of Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development.
Dr Grech鈥檚 address was delivered in his capacity as Co-Chair of the EU Expert Group on Health Systems Performance Systems, a position he has held for the past 4 years.
He outlined the work of the Expert Group over the past 7 years, including the research and publication of a report on the state of play of Resilience in European member states.
This outlined the gaps and challenges in determining the resilience readiness in Europe, especially prior to and during the COVID-19 crises. Methods of assessment and implementing tools to gauge governance and resource capacities were also highlighted, in anticipation of assessing the implementation of the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility post-COVID.
Dr Kenneth Grech is a Resident Academic in the Department of Health Systems Management and Leadership within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
He is currently also coordinating the national Public Health COVID-19 Response Team within the Ministry for Health.
