Game theory education in Malta took a leap forward thanks to an agreement signed between the and the University of Malta.
This agreement saw the University organising a series of lectures on Game Theory through the Department of Economics within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, which provided students with added knowledge and understanding on strategic interactions among people within and between organisations.
Game theory is a theoretical framework which helps conceive real social situations through the use of games, or interactive situations among rational players.
The MGA’s Chief Executive Officer, Carl Brincat stated that, “Promoting the development of Malta as a centre of excellence is among the MGA’s regulatory objectives and collaborating with the University of Malta on initiatives such is this is an invaluable step towards achieving it.”
University of Malta Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella, welcomed this agreement, saying that game theory equips students with a much-needed applied skill, that of understanding firm behaviour. This enhances their own reasoning and decision-making abilities, but is also significant in leading to progress within the entities they are part of.
“So we have here a very valid example of how a University education, with the constant input of the industry, and in this case, the regulator, will give our students a more valuable journey towards their personal success and the betterment of the society they operate in”, he continued.
Further to the sponsorship of these lectures through the provision of a Visiting Lecturer, the two entities have both committed themselves to more collaborations for the benefit of local students.
