Throughout the year, the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus hosts a myriad of guests who convene to discuss the latest matters against the scenic background of our capital city.
The University’s Pro-Rector for International Development and Quality Assurance, Prof. Frank Bezzina and Malta Council for Economic and Social Development Chairman, Mr James Pearsall, have recently reached an agreement to start hosting MCESD meetings regularly on this campus.
As has been previously announced on Newspoint, on Wednesday 30 June, MCESD already met with social partners and local dignitaries to discuss the recent decision taken by the Financial Action Task Force and a way forward for Malta.
The latest MCESD, which took place on Thursday 14 July 2021, signalled the official start of this partnership, with Mr Pearsall kicking off by thanking the University for its hospitality.
Mr Pearsall also expressed the wish for the University to give more input vis-à-vis MCESD’s social model, through evidence-based research.
He then invited Prof. Alfred J. Vella, the University Rector, to say a few words, to which Prof. Vella answered that he is pleased to hear about this partnership and looks forward to extending University’s participation in society, especially in the social remit.
“This is certainly not the first time the University has shared its expertise with policy makers to ultimately benefit our nation, and we are very pleased to be working with MCESD in this regard”, he said.
