Institute for Physical Education and Faculty of Education academic, Dr Andrew Decelis, has been elected on the Bureau of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) of the Council of Europe (CoE) (2020-2022).
The Bureau is elected by the members of the Governing Board which is composed of representatives appointed by the government of each member state.
The Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport provides a platform for intergovernmental sports co-operation between the public authorities of its 40 member states.
EPAS contributes to the development of the European sport culture through the promotion of the values of the European Sports Charter. This Charter, which is currently in the process of being revised, provides a framework for sports policy to be followed by European countries.
EPAS main aims are to make sport more ethical, more inclusive and safer.
It strives to promote the positive values of sport and to ensure a more open participation and diversity, while combating the threats of sport. Different recommendations of EPAS have been adopted by the Council of Europe鈥檚 Committee of Ministers.
EPAS is currently implementing various projects, including the Start to Talk initiative aimed to prevent and respond to the abuse of children in sport, and a project on Preventing and Combatting Discrimination and Hate Speech in Sport.
