Robots have always been a key element of sci-fi movies, with the first release of these films dating back to the 1920s and 1930s. Nowadays, robots have become a reality within the manufacturing and scientific industries. Yet, household robots haven’t really taken off yet. One graduate from the University of Malta (UM) has started his own company to realise the true potential of robotics!

Cyberselves was founded by UM alumnus Daniel Camilleri. The company originally started out as a university-founded research project in the UK, before developing into a fully fledged company. Their main profile is developing software and applications which facilitate controlling and programming robots.

One of Cyberselves’ first projects was Animus, a universal language that allows developers to write applications for robots. Just as Android functions as an operating system for your smartphone, Animus aims to become the operating system for robots. The company has a number of other exciting projects lined up, including Teleport, an application that allows the user to control any robot anywhere in the world directly.

Thanks to their innovations, Camilleri’s company has earned international recognition, winning a spot in the finals of the prestigious ANA Avatar XPRIZE global robotics competition. Cyberselves aims to create a universal marketplace for robots, bringing together users, developers, and manufacturers. Perhaps in the not-so-distant future, we might have our very own robot!
