A delegation from the University of Cadiz, Spain, led by the Vice-Rector in charge of the Bahia de Algeciras Campus, Dr Maria del Mar Cerban Jimenez, visited Malta and UM between 21 -24 March.
The visit has accelerated the preparatory work towards a joint master's programme in port management and logistics within the SEA-EU Alliance, in which UM would be one of the universities delivering input.
The Spanish delegation had the opportunity to visit various port and maritime-related locations and organisations in Malta, including Grand Harbour, Malta Freeport and the International Maritime Law Institute.
Fruitful exchanges were also held with UM Rector Prof Alfred Vella, along with Pro-Rectors Prof Frank Bezzina and Prof Joseph Cacciotolo, International Office Director Stefania Agius Fabri, Head of the Department of Management at FEMA Prof Vince Cassar, and Rector's delegate for SEA-EU Prof Godfrey Baldacchino.
The pivotal role that knowledge and skills in logistics and port management played in nurturing Malta's development aspirations and credentials in the blue economy were highlighted during these exchanges.
Vice-Rector Cerban Jimenez was accompanied by Prof Jesus Verdu Baeza (specialist in international maritime law) and Ms Marusa Arias de Molina (from the University of Cadiz secretariat).
