Often we think of the arts as restricted to galleries and theatre, just as scientific knowledge is restrained to an ivory tower. How do we burst all these individual bubbles?
SciCultureD tries to answer this question by challenging individuals of different backgrounds to tackle the wicked problems that hinder the path toward a more sustainable future. The newly launched project will nurture transdisciplinarity, dialogue and collaboration as the key skills to create an informed and sustainable society.
Funded by the Erasmus+ programme, the project brings together two Higher Education Institutions (University of Malta, Malta; Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norway), a science communication enterprise (city2sciece, Germany) and a science communication non-governmental organisation (Science View, Greece). Through the collaboration, SciCultureD will develop 3 intensive trainings for students and teachers at a tertiary level. The 5 day-long courses will immerse the participants in a transdisciplinary experience, supported by experts in arts, science, entrepreneurship, pedagogy, design thinking and science communication.
The intensive courses will promote the dialogue between different backgrounds, needs and ideas. Participants will be challenged to work together in current challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (mainly SGD 11- Sustainable cities and communities, but also 4-Quality Education, 5-Gender equality and 17- Partnerships for the goals) and the European Green Deal.
Besides the intensive courses, SciCultureD will organise workshops and other events with the local communities. These activities will help people of different backgrounds work together by giving them the tools to think in a creative and innovative way, besides addressing the challenges that frame SciCultureD as a whole. The events will bring together arts, science and entrepreneurship and will be organised by the consortium along with local stakeholders and organisations and participants from the intensive courses.
