Today marks the 50th anniversary of the . It comprises of 17  as full members and other three organisations with partial membership, representing no less than 10,000 professionals in Malta. This came to be as the growth of the University of Malta, the professional population in Malta increased and more professional organisations were set up throughout the years.

Today is also Earth Day, and it is being celebrated worldwide, and by this initiative in collaboration with the Federation, we are creating more green spaces for students and staff to enjoy whilst celebrating natural resources. There were various types of trees planted by the University ring road, close to the Faculty of ICT, some include; pine trees, cypress, almond and Malta's national tree - the Gharghar.

The trees were planted by the employees at the UM Precincts office.
