The UM recently welcomed Prof. Heather Coltman, Provost at James Madison University in Virginia, USA, together with Prof. Robert Kolvoord, Dean of the College of Integrated Science and Technology at the same university. This visit continues a long-standing history of collaboration between James Madison University and the UM鈥檚 Institute of Earth Systems.
During their visit, Prof. Coltman and Prof. Kolvoord met with Prof. Frank Bezzina, Pro-Rector for International Development and Quality Assurance, and with Prof. Joseph M. Cacciottolo, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs, together with other UM colleagues. Discussions focused primarily on the dual degree programme that James Madison University offers with the University of Malta, while also exploring opportunities for new collaboration avenues.
The dual degree programme (MSc in Environmental Management and Sustainability) affords students a strong grounding in applications of environmental science and technology, with the opportunity to specialise in specific thematic areas. Applications for the 2023/2024 academic year intake will be open in the next months. The programme offers students a unique learning opportunity, being taught partially in Virginia and partially in Malta, enabling students to compare and work within vastly different environments and to earn degrees that are recognised in both the US and Europe. It also brings together an international student and faculty community, offering a truly cross-cultural experience.
Potentially interested applicants can contact the Coordinator of this programme, Prof. Elisabeth Conrad, at the Institute of Earth Systems, for further details.
