The International Conference on ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ Communication Technologies in Education () has been an annual fixture for twenty two years. It is held each year on a different Greek island, with ICICTE 2022 having been held in the first week of July 2022 on Rhodes.
Professor Ä orÄ¡ Mallia, Head of the Department of Media & Communications, Faculty of Media & Knowledge Sciences, has been one of the two co-organisers of the conference since 2018, though he had already been on the conference steering committee since 2008. Professor Mallia and his Greek counterpart, Nancy Pyrini, who also acts as conference director, bring together a relatively small, but highly professional and dedicated group of communications and education researchers from around the world in a three-day forum setting, there to network, discuss, present research, run workshops, and generally create an atmosphere conducive of academic discourse, exploring the technologies of teaching and learning. The conference also has a lavish social programme, creating plenty of room for informal interaction and the striking of friendships. In fact, many participants return to the conference year after year.
Professor Mallia, who has been attending the conference annually since it was first held in 1999, introduces and closes ICICTE, runs the Philosophers’ Cafè (a free for all discussion on issues brought up by keynotes and other presentations during the conference), and moderates sessions. He has also been the chair of the Scientific Committee for a number of years, and has acted as ICICTE Communications Coordinator for well over a decade, also creating all print and online materials.
Maltese participation has also been encouraged and has increased over the years. In fact, Junior College lecturer Mr Neville Thomas presented a paper about his own teaching technology research in this year’s conference.
ICICTE 2023 will be held on the island of Lesvos between the 6 and 8 July 2023. More information on the present and future conferences can be found .
