Dr Isabelle Gatt presented a paper about the process and the findings of a research-based theatre project with senior citizens at the IDIERI 10 Drama in Education Research Institute conference at the University of Warwick in Coventry, England. Her paper “Community theatre with Senior Citizens through the 2021 pandemic uncertainties†discusses how the theatre process, which had to be reimagined as the artists and participants navigated through the 2021 lockdowns and uncertainties of the pandemic, impacted older adults’ wellbeing.
The paper also characterizes the strategies used to promote the sustainability of participatory theatre at the Active Ageing centres in Malta as a regular activity, which it was successful in doing at the particular centre where the project took place.
The research project is part of the European research project Acting on the Margins: Arts as Social Sculpture (AMASS), which was funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (under grant agreement no 870621). The AMASS project lead in Malta, is her colleague, Prof. Raphael Vella.
