Between 6 and 9 September 2022, Rev. Dr Jonathan Farrugia, Head of Department of Church History, Patrology and Palaeochristian Arch, participated in the 15th International Colloquium on Gregory of Nyssa organized by Professor Morwenna Ludlow at the University of Exeter, UK.
Dr Farrugia presented a paper entitled "'...the reforming of the dissolved being' (An et res GNO III.3 54, 22-24). The saved body in Gregory of Nyssa's De anima et resurrectione and his homilies", in which he discussed the different interpretations the Cappadocian gives of the resurrected human body in several of his oratorical works.
The has been organized since 1969; it brings together scholars of Gregory of Nyssa from all over the world to discuss specific works of his or themes that are recurrent in his writings. Many scholars of fame who forged the foundations of Nyssen studies like Jean Dani茅lou, Monique Alexandre, Mariette Can茅vet, Marguerite Harl, Andreas Spira, Claudio Moreschini, Verna Harrison and Hubertus Drobner participated in previous colloquia; contemporary scholars who participated in this present colloquium include Matthieu Cassin, Johannes Zacchuber, Giulio Maspero, Lenka Karf铆kov谩, H茅l猫ne Grelier-Deneux, Mark Delcogliano and Volker Drecoll.
Dr Farrugia has participated in the latest three colloquia held in Rome (2014), Paris (2018) and the Exeter (2022) wherein the Homilies on the Song of Songs, the Homilies on the Our Father and the treatise On the Soul and the Resurrection have been discussed. The studies presented by Dr Farrugia in the 2014 and 2018 colloquia have been published by Peeters and Brill in the renowned and series.
