During the Global Conference on clinical pharmacy education and practice organised by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy in San Francisco, academic staff and Doctorate in Pharmacy graduates from the Department of Pharmacy of the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery presented research results and shared education and practice developments.
Professor Lilian M Azzopardi, Head of the Department of Pharmacy, presented perspectives of clinical pharmacy education and training in Europe. Dr Amar Abbas and Dr Catherine Anne Busuttil contributed to the session on global community clinical pharmacy practice. Dr Abbas presented practice developments in Ireland and Dr Catherine Anne Busuttil presented the clinical community pharmacy services models in Malta with a particular focus on point-of-care testing and community pharmacists’ contribution in chronic medications management. Results from the research work by Dr Osvaldo Cancellu, another Doctorate in Pharmacy graduate, on the development of a framework to standardise clinical pharmacy services in primary care were presented as a poster.
Dr Maresca Attard Pizzuto, Dr Nicolette Sammut Bartolo and Professor Anthony Serracino-Inglott contributed to the session on Implementation of Comprehensive Medication Management Consultancy with discussions on real-world examples and reflections on promoting inter-professional collaborative practice.
