The first group of students supported by the Ministry of Higher Education of the Maldives have joined the University of Malta this month. They will be pursuing a Master of Science in Addiction Studies over a period of two years. This follows from talks between Prof Richard Muscat and Prof Marilyn Clark and the Maldivian education authorities.
An agreement was signed between the University of Malta and the Ministry of Higher Education of the Maldives earlier this year. The Master of Science in Addiction Studies is a transdisciplinary programme of studies offered as a joint venture by the Faculty for Social Wellbeing and the Faculty for Medicine and Surgery. It addresses the complex issue of addiction from a variety of perspectives.
The students' travel to Malta was facilitated by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade and the High Commission of Malta in India.
