Prof. Maria Attard and UM doctoral student Karyn Scerri attended the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. this January 2023 and presented their research after two years of no travel due to COVID-19. As part of her doctoral studies Ms Scerri presented work on perceived exertion when walking for short distances, work which she collaborated on and wrote whilst on an Erasmus+ mobility period at TU Delft in 2022.
Prof. Attard presented her recent work on women and work in the public transport sector, a study across four European islands, which looks at the challenges faced by women and employers in the sector. This work was done in collaboration with Prof. Loukas Dimitriou from the University of Cyprus.
Whilst in Washington D.C., Prof. Attard also had the opportunity of attending the Chair鈥檚 Reception of the Women in Transportation Society and meet US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Earlier in November 2022, Prof. Attard was also invited at an expert roundtable at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, organised by the International Transport Forum on walking and cycling in urban areas. As part of a global panel of experts, Prof. Attard contributed her research and experiences on active travel, sharing also insights into her and her team鈥檚 work and projects at the University of Malta.
