Final year Executive MBA students on the Strategy module with Dr Nathaniel Massa at the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy, have recently had an engaging session with Meridiana Wine Estate’s Founder and launch CEO Mr Mark Miceli Farrugia.
An established Maltese vinicultural success story, Meridiana pioneered premium quality wines on the Island with its internationally acclaimed “World-Class Wines of Maltese Character”.
The focus of the session centred around Meridiana’s pivotal strategic alliance with Marchesi Antinori Srl, an international globally recognised Italian wine company dating back to 1385 – one of Italy’s biggest winemakers, also touted the 10th oldest family-owned business in the world.
The MBA cohort had been researching and working on the published case-study: ‘David and Goliath: The Evolution of a Strategic Partnership in Wine’, featuring the Meridiana story.
The strategy exercise was capped on campus, where MBA participants engaged in discussion and debate with Meridiana’s founder; and presented their perspectives and observations on the company’s alliance dynamics and strategic partnership. The applied session offered all participants a rich learning experience – consolidating practitioner and theoretical perspectives, with the Founder’s seasoned first-hand insight on the strategic realities and lived experience.
Furthermore, the current GM and team kindly extended an invitation to the MBA cohort to visit the Meridiana Wine Estate to round off the experience in an immersive way.
Dr Massa and FEMA take the opportunity to thank Mr Mark Miceli-Farrugia, as well as the current company management; and augur Meridiana Wine Estate every continued success.

Their exposure and diverse experiential knowledge contributes to the applied learning environment fostered by FEMA on this part-time evening Masters programme.
The programme is tailored for practising professionals, managers, and others aspiring to higher positions of responsibility within their organisations – or those seeking a sound foundation and insight towards effectively running their own business in increasingly competitive environments.
A new International Executive MBA programme is currently also being developed with a view to launch shortly.
