This academic year marks the tenth anniversary of the first graduations from the B.Sc. Health Science programme – an interdisciplinary programme, offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences to enable healthcare professionals who hold a diploma, higher diploma or traditional qualification to a bachelor’s degree. The programme is delivered entirely by e-learning. So far, 375 students have graduated from this programme and the fifteenth iteration of the programme is expected to commence in October.
This important milestone was commemorated through a celebration held at the auditorium and foyer of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Apart from graduates and current students, the guests included Prof. Alfred J. Vella, Rector, Prof. Joseph Ciacciattolo, Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr Stephen Lungaro Mifsud, Dean, Professor Susie Schofield, external examiner for the programme, Faculty Officers, study unit coordinators, programme administrators and academic supervisors. The current and former coordinators of the programme, Dr Josef Trapani and Dr Michelle Camilleri (who originally designed and proposed the programme) welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the origins and development of the course along these years. The Rector congratulated the team behind the programme as well as the graduates. Two graduates, Mr Joseph Garzia and Ms Veronica Montebello, shared their experience as former students on the programme and the opportunities and career progression that followed their graduation. The event was followed by a reception. The event was coordinated by Ms Melita James.
The B.Sc. Health Science programme offers a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals who would like to upgrade their diploma or traditional qualification to a bachelor’s degree without having to set foot in a classroom, spend hours in traffic or looking for a parking place. Its mode of teaching and learning enables students to complete most of the work at a preferred time, making it an ideal choice for persons who need to juggle multiple commitments in their professional and personal lives while furthering their studies. Students do not need to reside in Malta to follow this online course, and the fees are the same for EU and non-EU candidates: only €300 per study-unit. Depending on their previous qualification, students need to complete between six and nine study-units to graduate.
Online you may read some former students’ testimonials about the course. Further information is available on the course website and by contacting the course coordinator by email.
