A group of students from the Faculty for Built Environment are collaborating with , a government-led initiative committing itself to improving the quality of life for people in Malta, in the organisation of placemaking initiatives within the Maltese community.
The members of the Faculty have recently met with children from 呕ejtun Primary School, to share their ideas on how to shape open spaces in their locality.
The children were presented with different case studies in the form of flashcards, to help them identify different uses for the playground, where the Agency is planning a regeneration project. They were also encouraged to sketch their ideal garden, and they played a quiz game to learn more about pollinating plants and sensory gardens. They were also involved in a hands-on planting session and took with them home some potted herbs.
During her discussion with the children, Minister for the Environment, Hon. Miriam Dalli explained that such placemaking activities are an excellent example of collaborative community involvement.
She also emphasised prioritising children鈥檚 ideas and actively fostering a generation of environmentally responsible citizens.
