On Sunday 24 September 2023, to mark the , the Festalingwi celebration of languages was organised by the UM at the Valletta Campus, and so the French Department of the Faculty of Arts and the French Subject Area of the Faculty of Education held an event entitled ‘Discovering French Through Play’, with three French language taster sessions.
This event was organised by Dr Anne-Marie Bezzina Busuttil from the French Department of the Faculty of Arts and Ms Anna Scicluna, coordinator of the French Subject Area within the Department of Languages and Humanities in Education.
Dr Bezzina Busuttil, Ms Scicluna and Dr Marilyn Mallia, Head of the French Department of the Faculty of Arts, addressed the students and parents and explained the importance of learning foreign languages and the opportunities that knowing French provides in students’ lives and careers.
Language games and other activities were led by students of French from both faculties.
All three sessions were very highly attended and young learners had the opportunity to handle topics in French and even to hold their first conversations in the language.
Parents had the opportunity to interact with their children during the practice exercises. An activity booklet was created and distributed to the attendees, for them to discover French through a ludic approach.
Attendees also received books in simple French and other tokens kindly donated by the French Embassy.
