Ms Hiba Wazaz, from the Department of Geosciences within the Faculty of Science presented the COST Action she manages about offshore freshened groundwater at the from the IAH (International Association of Hydrogeologists) held in Cape Town from 18 to 22 September 2023. This groundbreaking event brought together more than 450 renowned experts, researchers, and stakeholders in hydrogeology from around the globe. Over 4 days of numerous presentation, intensive discussions and knowledge sharing, attendees explored cutting-edge advancements, fostering collaboration, and addressing critical water resource challenges.
is a that aims at determining whether freshwater stored in offshore aquifers can be a viable resource for water-stressed coastal regions. It was launched in September 2022. It is chaired by Prof. Aaron Micallef from the Marine Geology and Seafloor Surveying Group within the Department of Geosciences of University of Malta and co-chaired by from University of Oxford. Working Group Leader Dr Ariel Thomas also from the Marine Geology and Seafloor Surveying group, and Ms Hiba Wazaz, Project Manager of the COST Action further complete the Core Group from UM side.
Ms Hiba Wazaz was appointed to represent the Action at the 50th Worldwide Groundwater Congress in Cape Town where she actively participated by leading a presentation about OFF-SOURCE and by making many new network opportunities with leading hydrogeologists and other professionals.
