The Launch Event of the National Genomic Infrastructure for Malta took place on 29 September 2023 at the South Auditorium of Mater Dei Hospital, Malta. The event attracted a wide audience of over 90 attendees that included clinicians and researchers from the Ministry for Health, the University of Malta, and other entities.
The event consisted of nine talks, including two talks delivered by international speakers Mr Szymon Bielecki (DG Connect, European Commission) and Prof. André Uitterlinden (Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam, Netherlands). The presentations covered a range of topics including the European and local perspectives on the ‘1+ Million Genomes’ (1+MG) initiative, Malta’s National Genomic Infrastructure and National Mirror Working Groups, and developments in cancer and complex genetics. During the event, work carried out by some of the National Mirror Working Groups was showcased, followed by plans for the way forward.
The Ministry for Health, the University of Malta, and Mater Dei Hospital were responsible for the organisation and coordination of this event. The event was a great success and provided an opportunity for discussion and a commitment for future collaborative opportunities related to the different Working Groups of the ‘1+ Million Genomes’ initiative, with a promise for further development of these fields at the national level.
A recording of the full event is available. Requests for access to this recording can be sent by email to Ms Miriam Dalmas.
