The Department of Philosophy is collaborating with the National Library of Malta in the organisation of the 6th edition of its Public Lectures Series.
The series, 'Knowledge in the Making: Towards an Intellectual History of Early Modern Malta', tackles aspects of Malta’s intellectual history from the 17th to the 18th century. The 'umbrella' discipline of intellectual history, diverse and eclectic in both subject matter and method, focuses on intellectuals and their networks, on intellectual patterns and institutions, and more broadly on the production, transmission and reception of knowledge and ideas across different fields of inquiry. Individuals, networks and texts are situated within their social, cultural, political, religious, economic and linguistic contexts. Overall, the series is intended to take stock of the current state of research and ongoing research initiatives related to Malta's early modern intellectual history, as well as to open new avenues for collaborative research and appraise the holdings of the National Library.
The series is coordinated by Maroma Camilleri (National Library of Malta), Jean-Paul De Lucca (Department of Philosophy, UM) and Mevrick Spiteri (National Library of Malta)
All lectures will be held at the National Library, Valletta, and start at 18:30. Free entrance. No booking required. For more info, please send an email.
