On 29 September 2023, Kiel University hosted the SEA-EU Science Show as part of the European Researchers Night, an event that takes place together with thousands of researchers across hundreds of cities in Europe. The event In Kiel occurred across 10 different locations and attracted several thousand excited visitors. The SEA-EU Science Show was hosted by Ulf Evert who is co-leading the Science Communication Group of the Alliance.
Kiel University offered six scholarships to enthusiastic early-career researchers from the SEA-EU Alliance to be a part of this truly European experience.
Two participants from UM had the opportunity to participate and showcase their research.
Matthew Vassallo, Research Support Officer in the Faculty for Social Wellbeing had the opportunity to attend a number of workshops in preparation for his presentation. The knowledge acquired during these workshops with highly experienced professionals provided him with tangible presentation skills and techniques.
“These skills were not only useful for the Science Show itself, but also for presenting my research in the future. It was also great to share and learn from the experiences of other PhD researchers who form part of the SEA-EU alliance, and I am thankful for the opportunity to make lasting connections with other like minded individuals, despite coming from diverse fields of research."
Lisa Ann Stojmanovski Mercieca, PhD Student, from the Podiatry Department, Faculty of Health Sciences, also expressed that participating in the SEA-EU Science Show left “a lasting impression”.
The workshops she attended were transformational, equipping her with valuable presentation skills and a fresh perspective on research sharing. Interacting with fellow PhD researchers from diverse fields within the SEA-EU Alliance was enlightening, fostering lasting connections and personal and professional growth.
Furthermore, she also stated how the “SEA-EU Science Show successfully combined science, entertainment, and networking in an inviting and informal atmosphere. It exemplified an outstanding opportunity that seamlessly merged education and inspiration.”
