Ms Antonietta Rosiello, Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, Management, and Accountancy, recently participated in the SEA-EU Staff Week held at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, University of Split, from 14 to 17 November. This event proved to be a unique opportunity for academics to delve into the realm of Sustainable Human Resource Management (SHRM) with a specific focus on its application in the Sustainable Blue Economy.
The trip was organised as part of an effort to facilitate internationality at the university and coordinated by the SEA-EU Office at UM. The beneficiaries that participated in this Staff Week were supported by the International Office via the Erasmus+ funding.
The SEA-EU Staff Week brought together academics from various institutions from all over the SEA-EU Alliance, including the University of Split, University of Gda艅sk, Nord University Business School, University of Cadiz, University of Algarve, and University of Kiel. Ms Rosiello was actively engaged in discussions and collaborative efforts to identify leading themes related to SHRM in the context of the Sustainable Blue Economy.
The central themes explored during the week-long event included capacity building for a sustainable Blue Economy and attitudes of students towards work employment in the Blue Economy, and the role of small communities in the development of the Blue Economy. These topics addressed critical aspects of developing a workforce that is not only aligned with the principles of sustainability but is also well-equipped to contribute to the flourishing Blue Economy.
One of the noteworthy outcomes of this was the identification of the potential of research groups. These groups, composed of experts from different universities, will be dedicated to exploring and advancing research in specific areas related to SHRM and the Sustainable Blue Economy. This collaborative approach is expected to yield innovative solutions, foster knowledge exchange, and pave the way for future interdisciplinary research endeavours. The Blue Economy Observatory will serve as a platform supporting the ongoing research groups, providing them with valuable resources and facilitating a continuous exchange of ideas. The observatory is poised to become a hub for monitoring, analysing, and disseminating knowledge related to sustainable practices in the Blue Economy, further promoting the integration of these principles into academic curricula and industry practices.
Ms Rosiello's participation in the SEA-EU Staff Week exemplifies the commitment of FEMA to staying at the forefront of entrepreneurship education and research. By actively engaging in discussions on SHRM within the context of a Sustainable Blue Economy, FEMA aims to contribute not only to academic excellence but also to the practical application of sustainable practices in the business world to the sustainable development of the Blue Economy in Malta.
