On Thursday 7 February 2024, H.E. Yu Dunhai, Ambassador of China to Malta, visited the University of Malta, where he received a warm welcome by UM鈥檚 Director of its International Office, Ms Stefania Agius Fabri and then proceeded to meet UM Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella to discuss ongoing collaborations with China.
The UM Rector and the Ambassador focused extensively on the collaboration with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the clinic on campus, the practice of TCM and its unique offering in a European setting.
They also touched on the work of the Confucius Institute, the solid collaborations with other Universities including Beijing Foreign Studies University, Xiamen University, Beijing Language and Culture University and the recently awarded Sino-Malta research projects.
Prof. Vella added that such initiatives undertaken by the University to achieve its strategic goal of internationalisation are also helping students receive better and more diverse opportunities in their learning journey as well as in their research one.
The Ambassador was also very pleased to hear that the number of Chinese students has increased to 64 and several other collaborations are in the pipeline.
Following this brief meeting, the Rector and H.E. Yu Dunhai proceeded to the UM鈥檚 Archaeology Centre where they delivered opening speeches launching an evening of performances organised by Confucius Institute for the occasion of the Spring Festival and the New Year.
