The Department of French, Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with Fran莽ois Soulages, Emeritus Prof. of Universit茅 de Paris 8, has co-organised an international event on Tuesday 23 January 2024 at the Maison de la vie associative of the 10th arrondissement of Paris, in order to highlight the academic contribution of four volumes of conference proceedings, published by L'Harmattan in the past years.
The event was attended by academics from Malta, France, Brazil, Korea and Greece, especially members of the research group RETiiNA International.
It was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr Pierre Clive Agius, Ambassador for Malta in Paris, who stressed the value of literature and the arts in today's world, and quoted Paul 脡luard's poignant poem '尝颈产别谤迟茅'.
The Maltese academic participants - Dr Marilyn Mallia, Dr Patricia Micallef and Prof. Richard Spiteri (online) - discussed literary issues related to the questions of existence and 'ext茅riorit茅'. Moreover, Ms Elisabeth Grech, a Maltese poet living in Paris who had initially studied French at the University of Malta, captivated the audience with readings of her poems from her book 'Bejn ba魔ar u ba魔ar', in both the Maltese and French version.
This event therefore fruitfully combined academic exchanges and discussions with the reinforcement of Franco-Maltese links.
