On Tuesday 6 February 2024, on the occasion of Safer Internet Day, and as part of their research activities within the EU-funded project DISRUPT, the Department of 福利在线免费 Policy & Governance (IPG) within the Faculty of Media & Knowledge Sciences (MaKs), organised a roundtable on the use of digital evidence in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of child trafficking.
The roundtable was organised by the UM Project lead for DISRUPT, Dr Aitana Radu, and co-hosted by the Deputy Dean of MaKs and Head of the Department of 福利在线免费 Policy & Governance, Prof. Joe Cannataci.
In spite of recent efforts to coordinate Malta鈥檚 response against human trafficking, it has been noted that there are still significant challenges when it comes to victim identification and prosecution.
The roundtable aimed to understand the difficulties that practitioners are experiencing in collecting and using digital evidence as part of their efforts against Trafficiking in Human Beings and identify further measures that may be necessary to come to their assistance.
Representatives from key local stakeholders involved in the fight against the trafficking of human beings, including the Malta Police Force, the Human Rights Directorate, the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security, Reforms and Equality, A摹enzija Appo摹摹, the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) and the Office of the Attorney General, were all present.
