and Prof. Pauline Galea recently attended the CoastWAVE Project Partners’ Meeting at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
CoastWAVE is funded by the European Commission's DG ECHO and implemented by UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
It is designed to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities in North-East Atlantic, Mediterranean Tsunami Warning System (NEAMTWS) countries to tsunamis and other sea level-related hazards. The project involves partner communities from Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Malta, Morocco and Spain, which are working towards attaining Tsunami Ready status.
At the end of the project, in June 2024, the communities will have improved understanding of, and preparedness against tsunami and sea-level related risks. The selected community in Malta is Marsaxlokk.
