On Friday 8 March, Mr David Schembri, Language Officer within the European Commission Representation in Malta (DGT-Valletta), was guest speaker for two hours within the framework of a French Linguistics unit co-ordinated by , from the of the .
Mr Schembri held a workshop on the fundamental notions and general practical guidelines of Interlingual Translation with students following the Bachelor of Arts course in French. The workshop was interactive in nature and students engaged in the exchange by their contributions on a number of points raised.
Mr Schembri also presented an overview of traineeship and professional opportunities related to translation within the European Commission.
Dr Anne-Marie Bezzina Busuttil presented to the students a number of practical examples of linguistic points to consider while carrying out interlingual translation, such as verb transposition and pronoun equivalence.
