The University of Malta's Student Solidarity Fund (SSF) received a generous boost of €660 from sales and donations stemming from a unique initiative involving the sale of olive oil produced from trees on the university campus.
The endeavour, which saw olive picking take place on 3 November 2023, saw enthusiastic participation from both staff and students who volunteered their time for the cause.
A remarkable yield of 900 kilos of olives was harvested last autumn, resulting in 124 liters of high-quality olive oil. The bottling process was expertly carried out by , which generously sponsored the university's olive pressing for yet another year.
The University expressed its gratitude to Dr Noel Buttigieg for spearheading this year’s olive picking initiative and to Fr Patrick Magro for coordinating the successful sale of olive oil during the SSF charity drive in March 2024.
This recent contribution of €660 adds to the university's ongoing efforts to support students facing difficulty.
The University’s olive oil charity effort included another €1,850 raised from sales during the Christmas on Campus drive last December, that were coordinated with Human Resources and Management Development (HRMD).
Funds from that initiative were allocated to support the missions of and , underscoring the University of Malta's commitment to community engagement and philanthropy.
