We are pleased to launch the latest Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) workshop series at the University of Malta (UM).
The first session took place with UM鈥檚 Marketing, Communications, and Alumni Office (MCAO).
Held on Thursday 25 April 2024, this first workshop was facilitated by Mr Roderick Vassallo, Ms Nadia Abdilla, and Dr Maria Brown. Their expertise and insights helped set the foundation for a successful upcoming series of workshops, aimed at fostering a culture of equity and inclusion across our UM community. This training programme was also supported by the Office for Human Resources Management and Development and the Office for Professional Academic Development.
The purpose of such a workshop is to provide an understanding of the principles of EDI in the context of higher education and research institutions, and within the UM community. Furthermore, it aims to foster consciousness on EDI at the workplace, in our everyday encounters and create more awareness about the resources and support structures available at UM.
During the training, participants engaged in interactive workshops specifically designed to promote dialogue and understanding around key EDI concepts, in this case, in relation to the area of communications and marketing. The participants were guided through thought-provoking, reflexive workshops and shared their perspectives, experiences and ideas.
Training UM staff in EDI is a crucial step in our effort towards creating a more inclusive and equitable campus.
We encourage everyone to participate in future EDI training and reach out to the Equity Office should anyone be interested to have this training offered to their offices or departments.
