Prof. Peter Mayo from the Department of Arts, Open Communities and Adult Education within the Faculty of Education, is one of the speakers at the AERA panel on Paulo Freire on Saturday, 13 April 2024 in Philadelphia, 19:30 local time.
He could not be present in person and so participated through a recorded input.
The panel addressed the question: Why do we need Freire more than ever today?
The original recording was of 30 minutes which, through editing owing to the session's time constraints has been whittled down to ten minutes.
This explains the edited abrupt transition from the issue of the ' oppressor consciousness' as manifest in the Gaza area, with widespread references to Genocide, to the second point about Neoliberalism and Yanis Varoufakis' notion of 'technofeudalism'.
The panel is coordinated by Prof. Inny Accioli from the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The theme of the entire event is ‘Educational Possibilities: A Call to Action’.
