On Thursday 9 May 2024, H.E. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who is one of the highest-ranking cardinals in the Catholic Church, is himself a likely papal contender, and who has recently been bestowed with France’s highest distinction for being a ‘remarkable man of the Church at the service of the common good’, paid a visit to the University of Malta’s Msida Campus as part of a wider-ranging visit to Malta.
He was invited by the University’s Faculty of Theology and members of to be the key speaker of this year’s Aquinas Lecture.
After being warmly greeted by UM Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella, as well as several members of the University’s Faculty of Theology, including Dean Rev. Dr Stefan Attard, Cardinal Tagle proceeded to have a brief meeting with the Rector, where they discussed the Filipino community in Malta, as well as their role within the Catholic Church.
Following this meeting, Cardinal Tagle attended a Q&A with students from the Faculty of Theology alongside a number of academics. You may follow the proceedings below:
Whilst in Malta, Cardinal Tagle also inaugurated the opening of the new Missio Malta Chapel in Mosta.
The annual Aquinas Lecture, which took place on Wednesday 8 May with a packed audience at the MUSEUM Auditorium in Blata l-Bajda.
