Prof. Frank Bezzina, Pro-Rector International Development & Quality Assurance led a delegation to Kuwait last week (Tuesday 21 May 2024).
He was accompanied by Dr Christian Zammit, Rector鈥檚 Delegate for International Medical Students, Dr Omar NShea, Director, International School for Foundation Studies, Ms Stefania Agius Fabri, Administrative Director of the International Office, Ms Carol Zammit, Student Advisor and Mr Jake Grech, Student Advisor.
During the course of the visit, the delegation held meetings with the Ministry of Higher Education of the State of Kuwait, the Embassy of Malta in Kuwait and a visit to the American University of Kuwait where opportunities for collaboration and exchange were discussed.
A gathering of UM alumni in Kuwait was certainly a highlight of this visit.
A substantial number of former students attended the event and this provided a point of encounter for students who graduated over the years.
A total of 135 Kuwaiti students supported by scholarships provided by the Ministry of Higher Education of the State of Kuwait have graduated from the University of Malta since 2002. The majority of students graduated from Medicine and Surgery and Dental Surgery and other areas including Built Environment, Commerce and Health Sciences.
The UM currently hosts a total of 89 Kuwaiti students, making it one of the largest international student communities on campus.
