The World Conference on Explainable Artificial Intelligence is an annual event that aims to bring together researchers, academics, and professionals, promoting the sharing and discussing of knowledge, new perspectives, experiences, and innovations in eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI).
This event is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, bringing together academics and scholars of different disciplines, including Computer Science, Psychology, Philosophy, and Social Science, to mention a few, and industry practitioners interested in the practical, social and ethical aspects of the explanation of the models emerging from the discipline of Artificial intelligence (AI).
AI has seen a significant shift in focus towards designing and developing intelligent systems that are interpretable and explainable. This is due to the complexity of the induced model from data and the legal requirement imposed by various national and international parliaments. Consequently, this has echoed in the research literature and the press, attracting scholars worldwide and a lay audience.
In particular, xAI can help solve some of the problems of AI, as highlighted in the Regulation of the European Parliament and The Council (AI ACT), laying down harmonised rules on Artificial Intelligence and amending certain union legislative acts.
Initially devoted to designing post-hoc methods for explainability, XAI is rapidly expanding its boundaries to neuro-symbolic methods for producing self-interpretable models. Research has also shifted the focus on the structure of explanations and human-centred Artificial Intelligence since the ultimate users of interactive technologies are us, the humans.
The 2nd edition of this increasingly popular conference will be held between 17 and 19 of July (both days included) at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. This year鈥檚 programme is rich with research on eXplainable AI in different areas, including Healthcare, Human-Computer Interactions, Fairness and Trustworthiness, Computer Vision, Computational Neuroscience, Generative AI, Privacy and Security, just to name a few. Several panel discussions and a Doctoral Consortium session will also be held.
University of Malta is an official partner of the conference and as such, the Conference鈥檚 Organisation has reduced the registration fees for UM academics and researchers.
