Throughout July 2024, a number of tours of the ship USNS Marie Tharp, which spent some time docked to Maltese shores, were conducted by personnel from the NAVOCEANO survey team.
NAVOCEANO, or the Naval Oceanographic Office, is a US government organisation that works towards applying relevant oceanographic knowledge in support of National Security in the US and beyond.
The tours they conducted displayed the capabilities of the ship, which is one of the most advanced oceanography vessels across the globe.
Prof. Timmy Gambin from the University of Malta鈥檚 Department of Classics & Archaeology concluded the last tour by discussing his excavation work in the ocean.
The tour was attended by members of the Malta Hydrographic Office, the US Department of State, as well as a handful of students from the University of Malta.
