Exploring the Universe Through Different Lenses: This was the theme of the Astronomical Data Analysis Software & Systems (ADASS) XXXIV Public Outreach Event held on Wednesday 13 November 2024 at the University’s Valletta Campus.
The Conference, hosted by the Institute of Space Sciences and Astronomy together with The , offered attendants the opportunity to hear about the latest developments in astronomy and data analysis, and engage with other like-minded individuals while learning all about the fascinating space research being conducted.
Speakers included, Prof. Oleg Smirnov from Rhodes University in South Africa, Software Development Manager Janet Evans and Astronomer Igor Chilingarian from the Centre for Astrophysics in Harvard & Smithsonian, and Dr Dmitriy Kostunin from DESY, Germany.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research, and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, who was also in attendance, spoke about the €1.9 million government investment in initiatives linked to the sector. He also mentioned the recently-signed agreement with the European Space Agency to join the Plan for European Cooperating States (PECS), as part of a five-year strategy to help establish the Space sector in Malta.
