The Department of Anatomy within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta is currently hosting Dr Raj Narnaware, an Associate Professor from the Faculty of Nursing at MacEwan University, Edmonton, Canada, for a three-month collaborative project focusing on innovative approaches to teaching and learning anatomy.
Dr Narnaware has been in collaboration with Dr Sarah Cuschieri, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, for the past five years, working on various research projects related to knowledge acquisition and retention among undergraduate students. Their partnership has led to multiple insights into effective learning methodologies that enhance student engagement and long-term knowledge retention in anatomy education.
As part of this academic exchange, Dr Narnaware delivered an engaging and thought-provoking lecture on 27 Thursday February titled: "Do They Retain Enough? Robust Interventional Strategies to Enhance Retention in Human Anatomy". The session explored key challenges in knowledge retention among students and highlighted interventional teaching strategies designed to reinforce learning. His lecture shred light on how active learning methodologies, assessment strategies, and structured reinforcement techniques can significantly impact knowledge retention in human anatomy.
Dr Narnaware鈥檚 visit marks an important step in strengthening academic ties between the University of Malta and MacEwan University, fostering an exchange of expertise in medical education, curriculum development, and innovative pedagogical approaches. This collaboration underscores the Department of Anatomy鈥檚 commitment to advancing anatomy education and equipping students with the tools needed to succeed in their future medical and healthcare careers.
